Nutrient Supplements

Lesson 4_page 34Some general suggestions for taking a nutrient supplements include the following:

  • Give multi-vitamins/minerals with food to aid absorption and prevent upset stomach
  • Give iron supplements with vitamin C-rich foods or drinks, such as 100% orange juice or vitamin C supplements
  • Avoid giving iron supplements with tea or milk
  • Do not give more than prescribed dosage; many vitamins/minerals can be toxic if over-consumed
