Purpose: The training course was designed to be used by health care professionals who measure and assess child growth using the World Health Organization’s growth standards.

Introduction:

B. Measuring a Child’s Growth: This training module describes how to determine a child’s age, recognize clinical signs of serious undernutrition problems, measure a child’s weight and length/height, and calculate a child’s body mass index (BMI).

C. Interpreting Growth Indicators: This training module discusses how to use growth indicators to assess the child’s growth in relation to his or her age. The following is a description of the steps and definitions used for interpreting growth indicators.

Feeding and Dietary Recommendations: This training module describes how to counsel a mother on her child’s growth assessment.
